Very good copy of this rare map of the eastern Baltic and northern Poland, compiled by Gastaldi, a cartographer based in Venice, widely regarded as the greatest cartographer of his day. The Italian school of mapmakers dominated European mapmaking, and this was the best map of the region produced by the school, although quickly superseded. This rare early version shows significant differences in the text with the more celebrated 1568 Forlani's issue, without much change in the cartography.
