Darstellung der Konigl. Preussischen Infanterie in 36 Figuren.

Darstellung der Konigl. Preussischen Infanterie in 36 Figuren.

Prussian military uniforms

Fourteen exceptionally bright and crisp, hand-coloured prints. The artist, Friedrich Lieder, depicts uniforms and badges for each Prussian army corps, with soldiers performing standard drill movements, including rest posture, marching and rifle gripping, and frequently striking graceful, ballet-like poses. Aquatint engraving was completed by Jügel. The work was reissued in 1827, and a 41-plate edition appeared in 1821.

Folio (540 x 390mm); title, contents leaf, and 14 colour aquatints, mounted on tabs, richly and extensively hand-coloured, foxing to title and contents leaf but not affecting plates, which are very fine; mid 19th-century half morocco, over cloth (replaced), replaced endpapers (toned) bearing binder's label for Happel, Rotterdam, rubbed at extremities, otherwise very good.

Colas 1863; Lipperheide Qdb 27; see Colas 1865 (1827 ed.) and 1866 (1821 ed.).
