Jean Geiser (1848 - 1923) inherited his mother's photographic studio in 1875, which she opened in Algeria in 1853. He later became best known for his portraits of Algerian people in indigenous costumes. Having taken advantage of the popularity of postcards at the end of the 19th century he turned his photography into a very successful business.
